Shailene Woodley's 'Adrift' Lands Prime Summer Release Date

Shailene Woodley's Adrift has landed a prime summer release date in theaters: June 1. STXfilms announced the news on Wednesday.

The actress stars opposite Sam Claflin in the intense survival tale.

Adrift is inspired by the true story of a woman who sets off on a sailing trip to Tahiti with her fiance. But after a catastrophic hurricane, she awakes to find her husband-to-be badly injured and their boat in ruins. With no hope for rescue, she must find the strength and determination to save herself and the man she loves.

Baltasar Kormákur directed the film, which is based on the book Red Sky in Mourning: A True Story of Love, Loss, and Survival at Sea by Tami Oldham Ashcraft with Susea McGearhart.

As of now, Adrift is the only movie set to unfurl over the June 1-3 weekend, which falls one week after Solo: A Star Wars Story hits cinemas on May 25.
